Swift

I got the package today from the swift people. It took some doing, but I finally managed to coerce it out of the box. And… They sent me a smaller, but brand new swift! You could have knocked me over with a feather when I opened the box to find a replacement swift instead of my old one.

New swift 1 New swift 2 New swift 3

Not only that, but it works, too. (You can believe I tested it before I sent them a thank you note.) It worked as smoothly and nicely as my original one used to, before all the trouble began earlier this year. The swift turned easily, and made a nicely tensioned ball of yarn out of my hank of ribbon. I have a project in mind for this ribbon, but I won’t be starting it until I finish something. The yarn is a perfect match to a skirt Mom bought me when she was visiting last month.

Blue ribbon yarn

I do wonder, though, why they included this length of twine in the package. There’s no blurb sheet, no explanation of any sort. Weird.

The moral of the story: sometimes there are benefits to being an unreasonable b**ch. Teehee.

Socks for Dave

Socks for Dave 2007-10-03 1I sort of finished up the first sock for Dave this afternoon at lunch. He tried it on. The foot fits quite well, but it’s a little loose in the ankle. I cast on for the second sock. I’ll do the foot the same way as in this sock, but I’ll change the ankle a little… Right now I’m thinking that if I knit higher up the cuff with the pattern stitch, then decrease two stitches and work a 2×2 rib instead of the 1×1 rib that I may get a better fitting sock. We’ll see. There’s a little yarn left, so I know Socks for Dave 2007-10-03 2I’ll have enough. When I’ve done that, I’ll have him try both socks on to compare them, then I’ll fix the top of, hopefully, just one sock.

Yes, that’s my short little foot sitting there on the completed sock. I lined my heel up with the edge of the sock heel. Short, isn’t it?

What season?

I haven’t done one of these for a while. The results of this one are perfect.

No, not an unreasonable bi***; just a matter of being right! (And now this is the proof!)

I have a guess about the twine they sent. I have the same kind of swift, and the joints where the “ribs” of the umbrella come together are susceptible to wear. I’ve had to re-tie a couple of mine. My swift didn’t come with twine–I had to go find some of my own. I love having a smooth-working swift. What a time-saver!

Good outcome on the swift. I take mine too much for granted, I think.

Fortunate that you knit those socks toe-up, huh?

    What is the twine for?????

Glad the company treated you right in the end, and that now you have a working swift!

I’m *finally* catching up on blog reading today. Well actually, I may only catch up on your blog reading today since I’m totally addicted to knitting the stole.

YEAH for being a bee-otch! I’m so thrilled they finally realized the error of their ways and sent you a new swift.

I took the season test and I am also fall!
