Fire update

We’re still here. The fire, as yet, is still a couple ridges away. Instead of moving west (toward us), it’s been moving primarily south. As to containment and control, acres burned, major roads closed, it’s bad, but so far no structures have been burned, and hundreds would be before it got here. If you want to see the updates, they’re here.

Thank you Karen and Kathryn, for your kind thoughts. We, so far, are fine.

There are a lot of other fires burning around the southland because of these winds, and homes have been lost, some of them incredible homes in Malibu. You should see the air. It’s awful out there, but much worse north of us than it is here. So far.

There are a lot of reasons I don’t like living in southern California. Fire season is the worst. The absolute worst. We need rain so badly. Not a heavy downpour that will run off and cause mudslides, but a nice, steady, even, light rain for several weeks, with a few days here and there of sun. That would do us right. After that it can pour. Given the forecast again this year, that’s not likely to happen. Not for quite a while, any way.

Be careful and take care - I have a friend in one of the mandatory evacuation zones.

I’m hoping for you guys that you will come through ok.

I’ve been out of it until this morning and didn’t realize the extent of the raging fires. Please, oh, please stay safe! Thank you for keeping us up to date.

Hey Laura, I hope it all goes well for you today. I’d love to make contact, email me if you want, I am in Fernwood, Topanga, just a few ridges away from where I understand the eastern front of the fire is.

Laura–just think, we were lamenting not being at the fiber festivals and suddenly we have some real concerns now with the fires here in So Cal. Stay safe.

I’ve been watching the fires (from a nice safe distance) and have been closely monitoring where they are in relation to you. I’m so glad they didn’t head your direction. The heat and winds kept me up until 4:30am and I’m so exhausted although I did get some good border knitting in on the stole.

My sister’s family was here for a week and left Saturday. Did they time that perfectly or what? I sure wish I’d gone back with her. She gets to play in the snow and we’re all dealing with the fires, the smoke smells, the heat, the winds …. I’m so not liking Southern CA right now. I wish I’d win the lotto and then I’d take us to some fabulous fiber festival far away from here!
