Smoke gets in my eye October 26, 2007
I’ve had a couple of requests for pictures of the smoke in the air. I actually took one yesterday afternoon, when I thought it was kind of bad. See? No mountains in the distance. This was taken about 4 pm. It was a lot darker outside at that time than it would have been without the smoke.
Yesterday evening, about 5:30, the wind shifted a bit and we were able to open up the house and let the relatively cool air inside. It was lovely.
Around midnight I got up and closed up the house. The wind had shifted again, and it was getting all smoky smelling inside the house. ![]()
This morning I woke up to this. This first picture is looking in basically the same direction as the one yesterday afternoon. The second picture is looking the other direction. I took these pictures at about 8 am. The sky to the east is glowing. I’m pretty sure that’s just the sun trying to peek through all the smoke.
There’s currently a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s) for this fire near us. I sure wish I had information to pass along.
Sock
On a brighter note, on a much, much brighter note, I made a lot of progress with my sock yesterday. You can see the pattern emerging. I’m liking it.
While I’m struggling through with a pair of cable needles, Susan is trying to figure out how to do the manipulation without using cable needles at all. If she manages it—I should say when she manages it as I have complete faith—she’ll post pictures and a how-to in her blog.

Very interesting non-cable.
Do try not to breath too much of that crud. Though a pain, some cheap facemasks from the drugstore will help when you must go out.
I do hope they catch those responsible.

I’m glad you can breath easier again and the sock is indeed bright. Enough to make you forget about what’s outside.

Thank goodness the skies don’t look like that anymore! Seeing that partial blue sky & clouds on my drive home last night was absolutely breathtaking.
The sock is so better better looking in person. I’ll be interesting to see if someone can figure out how to make those cables without the cable needle.

Oh, I love that pattern Laura.
I wish I had the info about the arsonist and not just for the money. I guess I should say the murderer.
