I hate it when that happens

I was knitting along, doing great. Knit one row past where I was supposed to do the next set of cables. Sigh. Tinked back. Then looked, saw, realized. The previous set of cables was off… I did them in the wrong place. Right row, but off by five stitches.

Candy Wrapper 2007-11-1 2

Gads. The rows involved were, naturally, all gusset rows. I didn’t want to do the smart thing, rip back six rows and simply reknit them. Oh no. I did it the hard way. That’s right. I dropped the offending Candy Wrapper 2007-11-1 1stitches, five at a time, and either crocheted them up where the wayward cables had been, or fiddled with the two cable needles and all those dropped stitches until things were well with the world again.

Why am I always compelled to do things the hard way? Yes, I can rearrange cables rows below. I learned how to do that years ago when I was knitting a complicated Aran pullover for Dave. But just because I know how to do something doesn’t mean that I should, that there isn’t necessarily a better way.

Gads.

But it’s all fixed now, additional rounds have been knit; I’m now a couple inches from doing the toe decreases. If only I knew what I wanted to do for the toe. That’d help, wouldn’t it?

A price to design?

I know I should be flattered, and I am, honest, but… Have you seen the eBay auction that includes my Diamonds in His Shoes pattern? It’s here. Go look. I’ll wait. I don’t know how long the auction will run. I have complained to eBay Diamonds socks auctionabout it, to their Trust and Safety people. I should hear something back within a day or two. I hope that counts weekends. This seller has grabbed a number of sock patterns from Crystal Palace’s free sock pattern page, bundled them with yarn, and listed them as kits.

The photo to the right I took from the auction. I didn’t snap the picture, but feel justified in showing it to you, well, because it’s my pattern! The page she has printed out there with the yarn in front of it is on Crystal Palace’s web site. Here.

While the possibility does exist that she doesn’t think what she’s doing is wrong, and it would be nice to give her the benefit of doubt, call me cynical, but I don’t believe it. I popped off a note to Susan at Crystal Palace, so that she knows and can do or not do, as she feels appropriate.

Dave was just in here. I’d sent him the link. He had to come and exclaim, “What’s she think she’s doing? Blatant disregard for copyright!”

But I am flattered. She likes my pattern!

Fog, not smokeP.S. Thank you, Robin, for letting me know.

Edited to add this photo I forgot about. I took this around 7:00 or 8:00 this morning. See all that white stuff in the sky and in front of the hills? It’s fog. Glorious, damp, lovely fog. Not smoke. Woot!

Wanna know what I would’ve done? Probably ripped out the whole sock! I hate tinking back, and I’ve never really done a complete cable project to have to know how to fix them, only practice swatches, to learn. The sock looks great. I adore that colorway.

I’m glad you got your sock back on track, but that eBay business is all kinds of wrong! Please let us know what kind of response you get from the seller, from eBay, and from Crystal Palace.

It would be nice to know that this practice is not tolerated.

I just emailed the ebay seller asking her how she could legally sell a kit with a free copyrighted pattern in it. I doubt she’ll respond, but if I get one I’ll let you know.

Bummer about the sock. I seem to do things the hard way too. Must be something in our twisted personalities!!

Being ripped off is the ultimate form of flattery, I guess. And, of course it would end up on eBay. Every scam, sham, and illegal product ends up there. LOL. Sorry you ran into a snafu with your sock. I couldn’t even begin to follow how you were able to fix it. ;)

Glad you sock is back on track because it’s a beauty!

Can’t believe that person in bundling free patterns into kits on ebay. Some people have no shame.
