A sockish meme

I saw this over on Brenda’s blog. I’ve been saving it.

  1. What’s your favorite sock yarn? (Please note that the word ‘yarn’ is singular. Just pick one. I know it’s hard.) I really haven’t used all that many different sock yarns. Hm. At the moment, I think my favorite is Fleece Artists’s Basic Merino. It knits up nicely, and it’s amazingly soft after it’s been washed.
  2. What’s your favorite type and brand of sock needle? Crystal Palace six inch bamboo needles, set of five.
  3. Do you knit your socks toe up, cuff down, or sideways? Mostly I knit them cuff down, but I’ve knit a number of pairs toe up now.
  4. Do you knit both socks at once or just one at a time? I knit them one at a time.
  5. What’s your favorite toe and why? I like any toe that lets me knit down to eight stitches and run the end through to finish it off. I don’t like the way my grafted toes have turned out so far. There’s always a funny little bump at the start of the graft line that sticks out.
  6. Favorite heel? I don’t know that I have a favorite heel.
  7. Do you prefer plain or patterned socks? Patterned.
  8. Who do you knit the most socks for? Myself.
  9. Do you darn your socks? If not, what do you do with them? Though my oldest hand-knit socks are about ten years old, not a one has a whole yet (knock on wood), so I haven’t had to deal with this issue.
  10. Do you only wear hand-knit socks? No, but that’s what I mostly wear. I’m definitely looking forward to the day when I can get rid of the remaining store-bought socks in my sock drawer.
  11. Bonus question: What pattern, if any, is your basic “I-just-need-a-pair-of-socks” sock pattern based on? Do you keep it written down or memorized? I don’t have a pattern like that. I’ve never knit the same pattern twice.

Since I wasn’t tagged for this meme, I’m not going to tag anyone else, either. If you feel like participating, go for it. If not, then don’t!

I’ll leave you with a current picture of the vine lace socks. I’ve turned the heel, and knit the gussets. Now it’s straight on toward the toe.

Vine Lace 2007-11-16

I’m not going to be able to post at all next week. Never fear, all’s fine. I just know I’ll be busy! I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving. I’ll be back the following week.

P.S. Thank you all very much for your wonderful comments yesterday. Hugs to you all.

I love those vine lace socks. I wish I didn’t have to worry about holes in my socks. I’m always darning, maybe that’s why I’m not wearing my handknit socks too much!!

I hate to copy you, but I’m thinking I’ll have to knit that same pattern in the same yarn. Although, I may have a different colorway I *could* use. ;-) They look so great!!

Have a wonderful and safe trip. We’ll have to get together when you’re back. I miss you :-(
