Vine Lace socks

Vine Lace socks 2007-12-11 1

  • Pattern: Vine Lace Socks by Kathy Garguilo
  • Source: Socks Socks Socks
  • Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Solids, chocolate, 1 hank
  • Needles: US size 0, Crystal Palace DPNs, set of five
  • Elapsed time: November 12 – December 11
  • Notes: Loved knitting these socks. It only seemed like it took a month to knit them, because I didn’t work on them for more than a week when I was waylaid by a lace scarf. Oh, and by the way, I love this yarn. It’s so amazingly soft. Definitely looking forward to wrapping these puppies around my dawgs.
  • Changes: I knew I wasn’t going to get gauge as the yarn I’d chosen was finer than the pattern called for. Instead of knitting the socks on 54 stitches, I knit them on 63 stitches. With that went all associated changes, like knitting the heel flap and turning the heel with more stitches, changing the toe a bit. No biggie. The hardest part was reading my nearly month-old notes so that the second sock turned out like the first one.

Not much got done on Sizzle yesterday. I didn’t even get all the arm hole stitches picked up. I have higher hopes for today.

The WordPress upgrade is going along swimmingly. Still need to fix those links in my sidebar, you know, the ones with automatic pictures. I know what I need to do with one set—update the software. But there are warnings all over the place that the upgrade might not work—egads—so I’m hesitant. I’ve added a slew of new plug-ins, too, stuff I couldn’t run because my software was so old. Great fun was had by all. Well. By me, anyway.

I’ll leave you with a couple of pictures I took from my office window. The one with the clouds was taken on Sunday, the other on Monday. Most of you would be in hysterics if you’d seen the lady I did late last week, all bundled up in a thick down jacket. Well. You know. It was cold. It was only 60°F after all. Come to think of it, I just about burst out laughing myself. She must be a southern California native.

P.S. Check out the fabulous sheep ornament (bottom of the post), and give moral support to the Yarn Harlot. I think she’ll need it to get through her crazy holiday knitting schedule.

Best of luck on the upgrade.

I’m so glad I don’t do hand-knit gifts when I read other’s holiday tales. I knit things for others, just not on an already-crazy schedule.

Beautiful socks! I agree with KarenJo. I stopped making things for Christmas; it’s just too tough to schedule, especially when you work all day. Now, if only I could take off the month before Christmas…

*chuckle, right now 60F is t-shirt weather up here!
Love your intricate knitting as always. Some day I will be able to as well, I hope!
