I still have half a ball of the lovely “teal” Zephyr Wool-Silk, and it’s been wanting desperately to be knit up into another little scarf while I figure out what to do with the other colors I have. With that in mind I’ve spent a little time here and there digging through stitch dictionaries again lately. Lunchtime yesterday had me casting on a new swatch. After dinner I ripped the whole thing out after realizing that I’d absentmindedly left out two rows of stockinette between all of the pattern rows. ![]()
Gads.
By the end of the evening, though, I had this.
The pattern stitch provides an attractively wavy cast-on edge, as well as slightly wavy sides. It’s beautiful, don’t you think? I sure do. It’s also super easy to knit. Here, let me show you a closeup.
But it feels like it’s missing something.
Okay, easy as pie to just keep going and knit a whole scarf from this pattern, but for some reason it wants… more.
It seems I need to spend some more time with my nose in knitting books. Oh darn. Wait! I like doing that. Well, good!
While I was swatching last night I thought the pattern seemed sort of familiar. Like I’d knit it before… I couldn’t imagine where. Until I looked at myself in the mirror when I was brushing my teeth, and look at what I saw.
My favorite blue sweater. It’s comfy, it’s warm, I can layer under it, and it goes in the washing machine like a pro—though I thought I’d shrunk it forever when I accidentally let it go through the dryer once, but it survived. Whew. Let’s take a closer look at that hemline, why don’t we? Yup. That’s the same lace pattern alright. How cool is that?
Yesterday afternoon Dave dug busily in his office and the storage area behind it. He removed a bunch of old stuff that doesn’t work
any longer, and put it out in front of the house. A very nice company (who remains nameless as their advertisement doesn’t have a business name on it, and they don’t show up in the reverse lookup directory) will come by some time today and haul it all away. There are three CPUs in that pile, three CRTs, three printers, and assorted other related things. Hooray! It’s so nice to get rid of dead hardware that’s been taking up so much room. The scary thing? There’s more where that came from, but Dave got tired of going up and down all those stairs hauling heavy things.
Edited to add: Finally found out the name of the company who came and picked up our electronics: Orange E-Waste. I couldn’t find a web site, but their local phone number is 714-538-1490, in case you have a pile of stuff you need to get rid of.

I love the new scarf, so it looks like your fave sweater. That’s a good thing right? I seem to love everything you design, I can’t knit everything you design, yet, but eventually I will be able to and I will knit it, when I get the patterns of course!!! (please don’t mention the pinwheel afghan, I’ll get to it). Scurrying to do Christmas knitting right now. GADS….

I can relate to the obsolete hardware issue. Same thing at our house. We took a bunch to a recycling event a couple of months ago, but have to wait until next year for the next one so that we can get rid of the rest.

I love the pattern on that scarf! Seeing it brings together some patterns ideas I’ve been contemplating for a scarf for a few days now, and gives me a great project to start working on! What luck, eh?

Knit on, Laura! I love variations on the Old Shale pattern as they are both simple and elegant, depending on the fiber used.
You’re giving me an idea about the teal colored Zephyr I have in stash…
