Think pink

I’m not really sure why I bought this color yarn. It is beautiful. Glorious, really, and it does look just like the pink that’s found in so many Dianthus, which it’s named for (my favorite in this family is the Dianthus barbatus, or Sweet William). I can’t wear the color, though. And I’m not really sure I know anyone who does. That aside, it is pretty, isn’t it? I guess I bought it because of the flowers. I do love Sweet William.

As you can see, the shawl is growing. It’s about 44 inches wide (not stretched) and 20 inches high so far. I have a way to go. I’m having fun, though. Loving the lower pattern, and the increases and stitch pattern bit worked out just right down towards the base of the leaf panel.

I have a few more four-row repeats to do of the latest stitch, long, long rows. Then I move on to the next part. Whatever that will be. I have it narrowed down, but don’t have a definite plan yet.

Last night we went to a friend’s 28th annual New Year’s Eve Eve party. Had tons of fun. Saw a bunch Kiri patternof friends that we usually only see there, and others that we don’t see often enough. A couple of years ago I bought enough KnitPicks Alpaca Cloud in Moss to knit Kiri, and ended up with enough to also knit Mim’s Mountain Peaks shawl. I love both shawls, but certainly don’t need two of them in exactly the same yarn. It occurred to me earlier this year that that yarn would go perfectly with Julie’s wonderful red hair and fair skin. I knew she’d enjoy having it, as she always oohs and aahs over my shawls. So, I gave Kiri to her last night. You should have seen the look on her face. And the huge, huge hug she gave me. She wore it almost all evening, too. It’s wonderful to give something to someone who really appreciates it, isn’t it?

Dave’s going off tomorrow to play Halo with the guys for their annual “Nerd Year’s Day” party. As usual, I was invited to join the gals and kids at another friend’s house, but declined. I really need a nice quiet day to myself, and have looked forward to it for quite a while. Though it would be fun to hang with “the girls,” it’ll be way too noisy and busy for my mood. Instead, I’ll hang out at home, watch movies, and knit all day. Sounds great. I am so looking forward to it.

I posted a year ago about Grandma’s complaint of how fast the years went by. This one was no exception. I feel like I barely had time to turn around and it’s gone already. A lot happened this last year. Some good, some not so good. All in all it was a little better than the year before. I want to envelop you all in a huge hug of thanks and appreciation for hanging with me and continuing to read my blog. You’ve all completely amazed me with your friendship and support. I thank you. It means the world to me.

I hope you all have a safe and fun celebration tonight, and that 2008 brings all that you desire.

I hope you enjoyed your day of peace and quiet and Dave enjoyed his Nerd day. I went to an auction with DS #3. We bought hunting rifles, oh yay, everything I wanted went far too high for my budget, I’d rather buy yarn, thank you very much.
