Garden Party is done

Garden Party 7

  • Pattern: Garden Party, my own devising
  • Yarn: JaggerSpun Zephyr Wool-Silk 2/18, 900 yards, Dianthus
  • Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm) Addi Lace
  • Elapsed time: December 19, 2007 through January 16, 2008
  • Finished size: 81 x 35 inches
  • Construction: This triangular shawl starts with a central leaf panel. After that the right side is knit, then the left side. At that point the full triangle is made a little larger, and then it is finished with a wide applied border.
  • Notes: The shawl construction morphed a bit from my original conception while I was knitting it. This isn’t a bad thing at all; I just find it interesting. I’m actually glad of it, since I’m pleased with the way it turned out. It’s currently being test knit. I have hopes that my test knitters will be done with me within a couple of weeks (no pressure! just a hope here). Either way, I’m hoping to be able to release the pattern some time around late January or early February. Fingers crossed. If you want to be put on the release contact list, then make sure I have your email address.

I’m looking for volunteer test knitters for a related stole. Like Pacific Islands, the pattern will include instructions to knit it as a scarf or as a stole. It will use all but one of the same pattern stitches found in Garden Party. The scarf/stole will start with a provisional cast on, and will grow toward the outside edge where a wide applied border will be added. Stitches will be picked up from that provisional cast on, and the second side will be knit in the same manner as the first. You will need to provide your own yarn, but you get to keep the resulting stole. I’d like to have this project completed by mid February. If you’re interested in volunteering to knit the shawl size of this project, please let me know.

Your photos make me want to sit in one spot and knit furiously until my shawl is done. That is stunning!!! I’m definitely keeping my finished shawl all to myself.

What a beautiful design, but then again, I knew it would be.

Not that I don’t love test-knitting for you (because I absolutely do), but maybe I should give someone else the chance? Unless you don’t care, and then sign me up!

Can I just adore Garden Party from afar? Sadly, I cannot volunteer to test knit for you and actually finish in the required amount of time.

She is another beautiful design from the mind of Laura.

Well, let’s see how fast I get this one done and if I’m not the total slow poke I seem to be and if nobody else wants to give it a try, you can count me in. It’s good to see how big yours turned out, because I was worried it would be a small one. I like them big, but that means I really need to get on this. I’m doing long sections now. 8/10.

I would love to take a stab at test-knitting for you. I’ve knit for many years, but have just really started knitting lace with lace weight yarns.

O.M.G., Laura, you’ve outdone yourself this time. It is positivly gorgeous. I am most certainly going to step up my lace knitting practice so I can eventually knit this, probably as a scarf, but once again, OMG!!

It’s beautiful! If I actually thought that I could make it by mid February, I’d love to test knit it. I guess I’ll just have to wait for the pattern release. =)
