Sockin’ January 22, 2008
After not having any socks at all in progress since I finished the Vine Lace socks on December 11, I am now making up for lost time by have two pair on the go. I told you about the Mingus socks I started last week. They’re coming along nicely. I finished up the first 32-round repeat over the weekend, and I’m well into the second one now.
Then because I couldn’t have just one “simple” project on the go, I started to design another pair of socks. I’ve been swatching. And, uh, no, I’m not going to be using any of those stitches on that swatch. But I loved the stitch definition with this yarn, and the colors are rather stripe-y, so I knew I wanted something that would hold up to the yarn’s patterning. I think I’ve found the perfect blend of cables and texture. I think. We’ll see. A couple days ago I started the sock with a lovely 1×1 rib. I moved into the stitch pattern, and the 1×1 rib just doesn’t work with it. Drat. Pulled that out and started knitting a 4×4 rib, which would go with the pattern just right. Ugh. That 4×4 rib would be a horrid sock cuff, so out it came less than ten rows in. I’m now a few rows into a 2×2 rib, which I hope will be a good compromise. We’ll see.
We’ve had a lot of lovely clouds again the last two days. The fire-red in the clouds was from the setting sun. It didn’t last long at all, but long enough for me to get a quick shot of it. My second picture didn’t have nearly as much red in it. And you should have just seen the sky before I grabbed the camera. Brilliant.

How did I miss those Vine Lace socks? Those are beautiful!!
Mingus looks like it’s quite a bit of work. Are you liking it? The yarn seems to be working with it.
What yarn are you designing with? Crystal Palace?

Your socks look wonderful. I love the color…also, nice to see red in a Southern California sky without it being from a fire!

That Mingus sure is a pretty sock! Can’t wait to see your “cables and texture” design!
