A reading challenge

I forgot to tell you yesterday that the lovely yarn I’m knitting this sock out of is Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in the Sand Ridge colorway. It’s been in my stash since last summer—I think. When I was digging in my sock yarn stash for a solid yarn to knit a pair of socks out of this yarn jumped into my hand instead. It was quite insistent that it be knit up immediately. What’s a poor knitter to do? Why, comply immediately, of course.

Anyway, the 2×2 ribbing is done, and I think it’ll work out just fine. I’m half way through the first repeat, and the texture is jumping out at me without getting swallowed up by the colors. Love it.

With a little Ravelry magic and help from Rhian, my knitting WIPs and now automatically updated in my sidebar based on my Ravelry page. Woot! If you’re on Ravelry and want to add the same magic to your sidebar, the instructions start here. What’s in a Name reading challengeIf you’re not on Ravelry yet, you won’t be able to view the project information pages, but if you click on the image thumbnails you’ll see larger versions of the images.

I was visiting Tanabata, and as always she has a great list of reading challenges in her sidebar. I decided to join one of them: What’s in a Name? The thing is to read one book from each of the six categories (color, animal, first name, place, weather, plant) in 2008. I think I can manage that. I need to come up with six books, though, and provide the list. The middle of the night—which is when I’m writing this part of today’s post—really isn’t the time for that; it’ll have to wait until daylight hours. Owlflight by Mercedes LackeyI have already read three books with colors and an animal name: Black Gryphon, White Gryphon, Silver Gryphon by Mercedes Lackey. I suppose I could use two of them and take care of two of the categories, but that doesn’t seem quite right to me. I think I should find something else.

I read the last paragraph just now, and ended with a “Doh.” The book I’m reading right now, Owlflight by Mercedes Lackey, will do just fine for the animal category. One book found, five to go.

I can already tell I’m going to like your latest creation. Don’t you love it when a yarn & pattern work together?

I’m currently switching to Wordpress now, so I’m definitely going to add those WIP toolbars to my new blog. That’s so cool!
