Flower Faire scarf

Flower Faire 2008-02-13 1

  • Pattern: Flower Faire, my own devising.
  • Yarn: EvolutionTM 100% merino lace weight from Chameleon Colorworks, 1 hank, 246 yards, Ruby
  • Needles: Size 6 (4.0 mm), KnitPicks Options, Harmony Wood
  • Elapsed time: February 3 to February 12
  • Finished size: 5 x 72 inches (13 x 182 cm)
  • Construction: Knitting starts in the center with a provisional cast on, and is knit toward one edge, where an applied border is added. Then the cast on stitches are picked up, and the second side is knit the same as the first.
  • Notes: You cannot possibly imagine how soft this merino yarn is. Nancy has the mill stretch the fibers before spinning, and the result is the softest, silkiest merino yarn that you’ve ever felt. Nancy then dyes it in beautiful colorways. The delicate color variations resulting from her hand dying technique are subtle and lovely. This particular yarn, the lace weight, is thicker than most lace weight yarn that I have seen. I’d place it more as a light fingering weight yarn. The pattern, a scarf/stole version of my Garden Party design, is currently being test knit in two more sizes: a wider scarf and a stole. Both of the test knitters are using a finer lace weight yarn for their projects. When my test knitters are done I’ll release the pattern for sale. Let me know if you want to be added to the notification list.

The two pictures below that are bluer than the other photos are closeups of the join between the two sides of the scarf.

Illusions 2008-02-13Illusions progresses. I actually got a fair amount done yesterday. The heel flap is done, heel turned, and most of the gusset decreases performed. Woot!

That leaves us with the Mingus progress report. Mingus 2008-02-13I’m not quite sure “progress” is correct. I held up the sock to other socks I have, and it’s considerably narrower. Or, it was. Not any longer. It’s been frogged, and the yarn all re-wound, ready to be re-knit on size 1 needles instead of the 0s I was using. As we knit…

Another beautiful piece, you’re really churning them out lately!

That’s a great idea to change the pattern into a stole and a scarf. Some people might like the pattern, but not the shape and like this they have a complete choice.

I’m getting nervous that I’m going to run out of yarn before mine is finished. EEK!! Don’t forget to bring yours to Stitches. Chameleon Colorworks has a booth! Maybe she’d want the patterns also?
