Mim’s mitts

I made good progress on the Serpentine Mitts yesterday, between lunchtime knitting and the time at the knit get together last night. All four inches of the 2×2 rib, done. First stitches of the thumb gusset and the first cable crossings, done.

I love knitting cables, and I don’t feel like I’ve done much of it at all lately. I only got two rows of cable crossings down last night, but I’m on my way. I have a feeling these mitts will be done in nothing flat. I’m definitely looking forward to having nice warm hands. I have also have a feeling that there will be many more mitts in my future. Having warm hands is a nice thing.

Snickers 2008-02-18As promised, I got a picture of my good buddy Snickers yesterday when I was visiting him. Isn’t he a sweetie? He’s getting old, though, and I do worry about him. His eyes are starting to get a little milky, and his left rear leg was a little stiff when he first stood up. It seemed better after a few minutes, though, so I decided not to worry too much about it. I will make a note of it for his next sitter and for his parents, just in case. Size 10 needles

I went to visit Snickers later than I’d originally planned. He lives just a couple of blocks from where I go for the Monday knit night, so I decided to make one trip instead of two. Then, well, my LYS is right there in the same parking lot as the knit night. How could I possibly not stop by to get the size ten needles I needed so badly?

Yesterday I discovered that someone in France (or some other country that speaks French) is knitting my Pacific Islands scarf. She’s doing it in a Granny Smith green yarn. It looks fabulous.

I have a few links to share with you that I found yesterday afternoon on Fyberduck’s blog. The first three links are useful if you tinker with design at all. I have other tools that I use, but these look pretty cool: cable chart generator, knit chart creator, and Fyberduck’s own mathematics of a traditional heel. Also, if you sew at all, Dragoknit has a cool tutorial for sewing up a little zippered bag that would be good for all sorts of things.

Snickers is so cute. I’m sure he was thrilled to see you.

How can you possibly be spending time on the mitts now that you have your size 10 needles? I’d be knitting up that sweater and the poor mitts would sit in wait.

I missed seeing you last night but I’ll see you in 2 days! I’m so excited!

I’ll now be checking on those links. Thanks for sharing them.

I must be cold there in SoCal for you to knit mittens now? If not, the next winter will come for sure. I’m glad you found your needles and isn’t it amazing to find out where in the world people know you or your designs?

It’s so fun to see someone knitting your pattern, isn’t it?! It really is lovely in that color green. By the way, I believe the knitter is French Canadian.
