One mitt down February 27, 2008
Surprisingly, I hardly got any knitting at all done at Stitches. Almost none, actually. I knit a little bit when H and I were talking in our room, and a little more on Saturday evening, but that was about it. I even took knitting with me to the market figuring I’d hang out in the lobby a bit and knit there. Nope. Instead I went back to my room and napped. Pitiful. Add to that the fact that almost every inch I knit when I was away has been ripped out. The gauge on the Emerald sweater is driving me nuts. I think I finally have it nailed down, though. With the size 10½ needles I’m getting 13 stitches in four inches, instead of the 12 stitches called for. Since
that seems to be as close as I’m going to get I decided to knit the sweater one size bigger than I would have. According to my math, assuming I can still do such simple algebra, I should end up with a sweater the size I want. Stay tuned. Pictures tomorrow. ![]()
The mitts ended up driving up to Santa Clara with me, and driving home again, without coming out of hiding except for a short while the last evening. I finished them up except for the sewn bind off, and the top five rows of ribbing on the thumb. I did those Sunday afternoon after I got home. Then I started the second mitt. I managed to get all four inches of 2×2 rib knit up yesterday. I’m ready to start the thumb gusset and cable pattern this evening.
I’m really enjoying knitting these mitts. They’re a quick, easy project, and promise to keep my hands nice and warm. I’m also getting ideas for designing my own mitts with other left-over sock yarn bits.
Oh yeah. Before you ask. Yes, that skinny-looking thing really does fit on my hand.
On a slightly different tack, Shanda gave me her copy of The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs last night’s knit night. Wasn’t that sweet? It was also perfect timing. I finished up the book I’d been reading earlier in the day, so I was able to start it already. Thank you, Shanda!

That’s the book that’s being made into a movie starring Julia Roberts, who actually knits and has since her teens. I wonder what that will do for the general perception of knitting?

Great-looking mitts. They must stretch a bit, though, to fit on anyone’s hand.

I got a ton of knitting done at Stitches in the evenings in the hotel lobby. Although …. I just ripped it all out (the Radiance Jacket), and started over, so did I get any knitting accomplished?
I love those mitts. You have such small hands they look beautiful on you.

I am glad to pass the book on to you! I need to continue to de-clutter so I have more room for my knitting addiction
hehehe
