The 10-1/2s won out

I was all ready to start talking about my green sweater, Emerald 2008-02-28 1when I saw a hawk circling outside my window. I had to stop and watch. Sorry about that little interruption…

I didn’t think it’d be so obvious. Mostly because I totally forgot that my yarn isn’t all from the same dye lot. Hem. It was supposed to be. Here. Let me zoom in a bit for you.

See that nice straight line where the color changes just a hair? Yeah. Well. I guess I’ll be ripping back a couple of inches of knitting today, and digging through the bag of yarn to find the other balls of the darker dye lot. Drat. And just when things were going so well.

I had a furry little helper again this morning.

She was awfully sweet, but somehow had no suggestions other than the expected, “Tear it out, Mom. You’ll regret it forever if you don’t.” Gee, thanks. Sigh. I swear, some yarns are doomed. It’s a good thing this one’s sturdy, and is holding up well to all the frogging.

I got a nice compliment from David in New Zealand this morning. He let me put it on my web site. It’s on the pattern page (scroll to the bottom), but I thought I’d give him a shout out here, too:

“I recently purchased a skein of Cecilia from Posh Yarn to make an undetermined shawl for a friend of mine who is having her 60th shortly. Dee from Posh Yarn pointed out your pattern to me and I was immediately sold. I just cast on tonight (three sets of leaves down) and had to stop to come and send you a message to tell you your pattern is amazing! Apart from the finished product (the red test knit is sensational), the pattern text and charts are extremely clear and easy to read. I couldn’t ask for better presentation in a pattern.”

Thank you, David! I discovered that I also show up on Posh Yarn’s current pattern suggestion page. I’m not sure how they found my pattern to link to, but it sure is flattering to be on that list. David already knows that I’m looking forward to seeing his progress pics. He has the central leaf motif knit up already. He just started it yesterday. Fast knitter.

I was just reading back over my post to discover that I really did get sidetracked by that hawk. I was going to start off the post talking about needle sizes, and completely spaced it. The post title was a dead give-away. Geesh. As you can guess from that, I’m knitting merrily away with the 10½s. They’re not perfect. The gauge is 13 stitches to four inches instead of 12. I’m making it work out by knitting one size larger than I would if I got gauge. It should work out in the end. Fingers crossed.

Hi Laura! You’re very welcome. I should have some pictures up on my blog and ravelry project page in the next day or so. Thanks again for a fantastic pattern. It is funny how these things work - I had no idea what I was going to make. Yours was the first pattern I looked at after Dee from Posh Yarn suggested it to me in her ravelry group and I knew instantly that it was THE pattern. I have a feeling my other projects might suffer a bit in the days ahead though…

Laura, how awesome is that! Don’t you just love the super connectivity of the Internet?

That’s so funny that the hawk sidetracked you so much. I’m glad you caught that “stripe” sooner rather than later.

See, I told you your pattern is amazing. This now proves it. Did he just say the red test knit is sensational? I may have just blushed.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and undo. I’m also steeling myself for a good rip. I should know better than to just keep going.

Congratulations on the link and compliments. Well deserved.

Ravelry! I think this pattern is gorgeous, it’s definitely my next knit. I’m off to buy it now, in fact!

10 1/2’s!!!?! It will never fit me now. :-(

    I’m strictly a 12 stitches per 4 inches kind of gal…
