Out it comes April 10, 2008
I showed the vine shawl (Dulcavina?) to Kristie yesterday afternoon when we got together, and she agreed. That black Malabrigo Lace is half the diameter of the other Malabrigo Lace, and that includes the gorgeous Tuareg that she’s knitting doing her test knit with. And it just doesn’t look right. We talked about the potential of this yarn fluffing enough to match the green, and neither of us thinks it will. When I got home I contacted Cathy at Twist up in Manhattan Beach. She did finally get that shipment she’d been waiting for, and the black Lace was in it, and she still has some. Before she sends me a hank, though, she’s going to compare the thickness with that of the Tuareg—she still has some in stock after sending the three hanks to Kristie. Cathy’ll let me know later today if the black Lace is thicker than what I already have.
Since we were together anyway, ahem, I took delivery of my Knit Picks order. Kristie was ordering some stuff from them, asked if I had anything I needed (always), so we pooled our resources, and got free shipping out of the deal. I’ve been needing another set of size 5 Options needles (love those Harmony woods) as I seem to knit with that size a lot, also a nice pointy set of Harmony size 5 DPNs—8 inches long—for doing borders and whatnot, some 40 inch cables that’ll make the next neck/button band easier, and some single pouch zip bags to store my cables, ends, and keys in. I decided that I didn’t like the snap pouches. The shape is odd in that the bags have square sides that won’t do anything but lie flat, and the snaps don’t work well without futzing with them every time.
I thought I’d show you the little bit of progress I’ve made on the Chameleon Colorworks sock. I’m so very glad that I ripped out those pools of color to go with the smaller needles. Now, instead of 16-stitch pools of color, I have very pleasant stripes. I have enough done here that you can see the pattern start to emerge. Since I won’t be working on the vine stole at lunch today, ahem, I should get a lot farther on this sock. Oh yeah, since I was starting over anyway, I went with a 2×2 rib instead of the 1×1. It seems to work better with this yarn. Oh, and in case you were wondering, both of these pictures are of 64-stitch socks. The only thing that’s different is that I went from size 1 to size 0 needles. It’s even the same stitch pattern.

I’m so glad Cathy has it in black. Now you can feel confident when she tells you if it’s thinner or not. My fingers are crossed!
You already know how much I love the sock.

I love the way the yarn looks in this sock and am amazed at how much difference one needle size makes. Although the last thing I need is another sock project, this one is definitely calling my name. I’ll be checking to see how the revised pattern/kit works out.
