It didn’t work April 23, 2008
It didn’t work. Rushing. That is, rushing so that I wouldn’t run out of yarn.
Because I ran out anyway.
At about a foot, plus one corner, from the end.
The good news is that Cathy at Twist had one hank left of the same lot of black Malabrigo Lace that this one came from. Cathy, you rock!
Yesterday evening I was knitting away on the second Mingus when I discovered, to my horror, that two rows below I knit 16 stitches from the wrong part of the chart.
The tinking will get done, probably this evening, but then I was most definitely not in the mood to go through all that, but still wanted to knit.
What did I do?
I cast on a new sock, of course.
The yarn is Smooshy from Dream In Color, in November Muse. You wouldn’t believe all the glorious shades of brown in this stuff. Yup. The same yarn, just a different color, that I’m knitting Mingus in. The brown is just as divine to knit as the blue. Soft. Smooshy. I am definitely looking forward to getting my feet into these socks. I even know exactly which stitch pattern I’m going to use.
There was no way Mingus was coming off the needles before I started—much less before I could finish—this sock, so I grabbed the other set of size 1 DPNs. Yeah. The ones that I was avoiding using for the Figgy Pudding socks (maybe it’s not the needles I’ve been avoiding—hm). As I was casting on I snagged “a bit” of the bamboo; evidently these were not super high quality needles. I got a sliver about 2 inches long. Fortunately, it didn’t get stuck in me. Unfortunately, it did get stuck in the knitting—though not badly. A row or so later a smaller sliver came off. It got itself stuck in the yarn, too.
I cursed. Both times.
Dave looked up from his magazine, questioningly.
Slivers. Grumble.
We discussed replacing the needles. Can’t have the needles coming apart in the knitting. In addition to the obvious hazards, if it happens often enough it’ll affect gauge. We can’t have that. So, in the budget or not, replacement needles got themselves ordered from Knitpicks this morning. Teehee. Six inch DPNs in sizes 0 and 1, the sizes I use most often. Harmony. Can’t wait.
