A little knitting, more beer

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

I was looking at Mim’s blog this morning, and saw this: Ruth is gathering information regarding the amount of yarn used to knit a sock round. Send her your numbers, and she’ll enter you in her contest.
I ripped out that ghastly knitting experiment that I showed you the other day. I have all new […]

Tilt

Monday, May 26, 2008

Pattern: Tilt, my own devising.
Yarn: Smooshy from Dream in Color, November Muse, 1 hank.
Needles: Size 1 (2.25 mm), Crystal Palace bamboo DPNs, set of 5.
Elapsed time: April 22 to May 24, 2008.
Notes: Lesson learned, 1: don’t use cheap needles, they split. While you’re knitting. Getting bits in the wool, threatening to puncture skin. […]

Canterbury Bells scarf

Friday, May 23, 2008

Pattern: Canterbury Bells, my own devising.
Yarn: Valley Yarns, 2/14 Alpaca-Silk, Navy, 365 yards.
Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm), Knit Picks Options in Harmony.
Elapsed time: May 8 to May 23, 2008.
Notes: In spite of the fact that I totally messed up the pattern, because of knitting when I was too tired to pay enough […]

It’s raining

Thursday, May 22, 2008

The weather this year is very confused. It’s actually raining. I was sitting there on the floor—I come from a family of floor-sitters, what can I say?—grafting the two ends of my scarf together, and suddenly it got quite dark. I looked up, looked out the window. Are those… Raindrops? Yes. They are. I tried […]

Frogging lace

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

If you’ve knit for any length of time you know how it feels to frog back any number of rows to fix a mistake—by “frog” I mean to remove the needles from the knitting, grab the end of the yarn, and pull. It’s at once freeing and intensely frustrating. Multiply that by about a thousand […]

Oops—gads

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

The second (third?) Tilt sock is coming along splendidly. I got an entire repeat knit up at knit night yesterday. I stopped knitting when I got to a flaw—read: small knot—in the yarn. I’ll deal with that this evening when I have more light. I think I only have one more repeat to do before […]

Tilt

Saturday, May 17, 2008

Tilt is ready to go. Just because I’m not done knitting it, doesn’t mean you can’t start. Thank you Linda for your hard work test knitting this sock, and Kristie for giving it a final once over. The pattern is available as a .pdf download in my pattern shop and on Ravelry for $5.00.

Finally awake. I think.

Friday, May 16, 2008

I’m feeling more awake than I have in days. Slept the sleep of the dead—well, not dead dead—the last two nights, and am feeling fairly human again. Finally. Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep again tonight. Fingers crossed.
Canterbury Bells is coming along wonderfully. I nearly have the first half done. The central panel is […]

Just a few things

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

I don’t have much today. Just a few things. I’m too tired to think past that. Got up some time between 4:00 and 5:00, and slept poorly while I was in bed. Nearly got up at 1:00… It was amazing that I lasted in bed as long as I did. Let’s see. Oh yeah. Socks. […]

Off the needles, and back on

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

I finished Mingus yesterday—after working on the pair since January. It feels like I’ve been knitting these socks forever. I’m so glad they’re done! Mostly because I can now wear them. Woot!

Pattern: Mingus, by Cookie A.
Yarn: Dream in Color Smooshy, Nightwatch, 1 hank.
Needles: Size 1 (2.25 mm), Crystal Palace bamboo DPNs, set of […]
