Oops—gads

TiltThe second (third?) Tilt sock is coming along splendidly. I got an entire repeat knit up at knit night yesterday. I stopped knitting when I got to a flaw—read: small knot—in the yarn. I’ll deal with that this evening when I have more light. I think I only have one more repeat to do before the heel flap. Maybe two. But I think it’s just one more. I could go get the sock and look at it, but at the moment that seems just a little too much like work. Canterbury Bells

I blocked the first half of Canterbury Bells yesterday. The room I blocked it in has very little light, so the color’s off in this first picture, but I think you get the general idea. At one point when I was knitting this first side I ripped out a bunch of rows. That was last week. Canterbury BellsI don’t know if it happened then, or some other time when I hadn’t had enough sleep, was easily confused, and really shouldn’t have been knitting… I noticed yesterday when I was blocking this that at some point I got myself off a little bit. Let me get in a little closer so you can see it better.

You probably still can’t quite see it. The bells are… off. There, the second one from the top shouldn’t be in exactly that spot. It should be more to the right. Let me get even closer so that you can see what I did.

Canterbury Bells

Can you see it now? Part way through that bell I reversed on myself and the right side of the fabric became the wrong side, and instead of nice neat knit stitches the purl side is on the front. And, conversely, the knit side is on the back—from that point all the way to the top (center) of the scarf.

Gads.

I’m just glad I saw this before I grafted the two sides together. There are a lot of knitting mistakes that I make that I let go. I can’t even find them later, or if I can they are a design element. This is no design element. This is a mess. It.must.be.fixed.

But not today. Drying clothes

Today the heat wave and sun we had for the last few days are suddenly gone. We have cooler temperatures and clouds instead. And I will need good light to fix this. Sunlight.

It was so hot over the weekend that I was reduced to doing the wash in cold water and hanging it on the old rack to dry. Thank goodness we kept that old rack. It was under the house and filthy. I took it outside, sprayed it with 409, scrubbed it a bit with a big brush, used a high-power nozzle to spray it off, left it in the sun to dry. Ten minutes later it was ready to be brought inside to be used. There are certain advantages to having a husband who’s a pack-rat.

Summer of Lace 2008The Summer of Lace web site has been set up. You can sign up, blog, grab buttons, and otherwise participate in the KAL now. They set up a Prizes page. I’m there. I’m in very good company. If you want to be eligible for a prize you must register on their site. There are contests, competitions, and such—winners get the prizes. Read about registration and rules. Mon Tricot 900

The other Mon Tricot book that I got off eBay arrived yesterday, the 900 stitches book. There are some stitches in common with the other Mon Tricot book I got recently, but some new ones, too. These old books are real gems. If you like to collect stitch pattern books you need to get your hands on them. This one’s a little better organized than the 1030 stitches book, keeping the knitting and crochet stitches completely separated.

Hasn’t this heat just been a bear? We got our clothesline out and dried clothes outside — they dried faster that way than in the dryer, I swear. I was so happy today to see that lovely marine layer roll on in :) I’m sorry to see the Canterbury Bells thing — I hate it when I discover something like that! It’s such a gorgeous pattern, though, and I love it in that color.

I can’t believe I didn’t notice that last night. I’m going to blame it on poor lighting. Oh no, wait, it was sunny. Must be all the stress going on right now. Although, by the end of the night things were *much* better. ;-)

I’m trying really hard not to click on the Summer of Lace link. Really really trying.

How. Very. Annoying. I know how easy it would be to do that and then not notice - when you’re knitting it, it’s all squashed up on the needles and you don’t see the bigger picture. I dread to think what you’ve got to do to fix it.
