Tilt

Tilt

  • Pattern: Tilt, my own devising.
  • Yarn: Smooshy from Dream in Color, November Muse, 1 hank.
  • Needles: Size 1 (2.25 mm), Crystal Palace bamboo DPNs, set of 5.
  • Elapsed time: April 22 to May 24, 2008.
  • Notes: Lesson learned, 1: don’t use cheap needles, they split. While you’re knitting. Getting bits in the wool, threatening to puncture skin. TiltLesson learned, 2: use the same needles for both socks. Important lessons, both of ‘em. Both driven home during the knitting of sock two of this pair. I must get another set of size 1 needles that I like. The Harmony DPNs are beautiful, but they have an odd texture, which adversely gauge. I’ll use them again, if/when I ever need to knit really tightly, and the size 0 Crystal Palace DPNs are too big. The good news? By the time I started the cuff for the second sock for the third time I had the pattern memorized, and the knitting went quite quickly.

Since I finished these socks (finally) I resumed machinations on the figgy pudding socks. I’m still trying to figure out a way to get around the obscene pooling that the yarn wants to do. And, well, it’s not pooling, much. But I don’t think this is going to work out. I can handle that the construction is a little… weird. But I don’t think it’ll fix anyone’s leg. At least, not anyone that I know. This is so frustrating. Except for the pooling, I love this yarn. It’s soft, lustrous, just gorgeous stuff.

We’ll see how it looks when I finish the repeat I’m working on. I have a strong feeling that this semi-sock is going to be ripped out, too.

Drat.

I sure wish people could see that pattern in person. It’s amazing. I sure wish I weren’t a bit burned out on socks right now.

I know you’ll figure out the Figgy Pudding socks when the timing is right. Maybe you’re just supposed to concentrate on the dress and maybe a round shawl pattern? ;-)

Love Tilt. I may have to buy this pattern. I don’t think the pooling is really all that bad Laura, of course pooling doesn’t really bother me all that much……
