I’ve been thinking about what to name the green sock I’m working on, and Rivulets simply doesn’t do it for me. Close. Right theme, wrong name. I liked the river idea, so let my brain flow around that one for a little while, thought of a few of the rivers I know here in California: Stanislaus River, American River, Sacramento River. Then I had it. The Merced River flows through the center of Yosemite Valley, which is one of my all-time favorite places in California. So. There we have it. These green socks will now be known as Merced. ![]()
“Merced” is also a lot easier for most people to spell than “Stanislaus” is.
Oh. And yeah. The socks are almost done. I’ve been a knitting fiend. I want to get them done so they can be washed so I can wear them. And so I can stop going around with a blue nail on my middle finger on my left hand. Not to mention blue stripes on my right index finger.
The pattern’s nearly done, too. I just need to have it test knit.
I got some yarn in the mail on Saturday. Yeah. I was bad. I had a $5.00 credit to use up
over at The Loopy Ewe; it nearly burned a hole in my pocket. I wasn’t too bad, though. I only bought enough yarn for one pair of socks. What did I get? Two hanks of ShibuiKnits Sock in Seaweed. I almost got a gorgeous brown. I almost got a fabulous blue (I really want more blue socks, too!). But then I saw this green stuff, and I had to have it. Yes, it’s very similar to the Tess’ yarn I’m making Merced out of—I’m nothing if not consistent in my likes—but then again it’s not. ![]()
Check out this adorable stitch marker that Sherri tucked into the package. The color even goes really well with the green yarn.
It seems like my posts, when I’ve managed to write them lately, have been quite short. Sorry about that. There’s been a lot going on here, and I’m swamped. Hopefully it’ll all calm down again before long, but I happen to know that it’ll get worse before it gets better. Thank you for hanging in there with me.

That’s one of my fave Shibui colors. I haven’t made anything with it yet. I just stare at it and pet it.

Can’t wait for this pattern! I am just about finished with my husbands pair.

Perfect name for them. I can’t wait to see them, your beautiful new sock yarn, and you tonight. I guess I should put my new yarn acquisitions in my bag for sharing tonight also.

Ok, ya got me with this sock. I love it. I think your blue nail and fingers were worth it. I hope the pattern is available soon.

Isn’t that funny…. I grew up in Merced. I grew up playing and working in Yosemite.
Lovely yarn and socks!

OK if I email you my address? I’d be more than happy to give that yarn and those socks a really good home :o)
