Getting close

Figgy PuddingI’ve been a sock-knitting maniac lately. Got the gusset done on the second (still nameless) sock yesterday, and a bit more besides. I’m going to be so glad to have these socks done. They’ve been a thorn in my side since I first cast on in what? Early March? Ugh.

The first sock is a tiny bit too short. Naturally. I’ll make this second one a little bit longer, probably just two more rows, then I’ll go back and fix the first one. Unless you like these, Mikki. If you do, I’ll make the second sock the same length as the first, then send them over to you. But I have to know soon. Like today. Hopefully you’re reading this today… I think I’ll dash off an email message to you to be sure.

These socks need a name. Dave keeps wanting me to name them after Charlie Brown, as the zigzag stripe pattern reminds him of Charlie Brown’s shirt. I wouldn’t be able to use Charlie Brown’s name exactly, because of copyright issues; he thinks that “Charlie’s Stripes,” or “Chuck’s Stripes” would be good, and would get the point across. I’ve been noncommittal. I just don’t know. Just now I was thinking that since this yarn has been such a thorn in my side that I should name the pattern after something with thorns, like a grandiflora rose or something. Or maybe just “Grandiflora.”

What do you think I should name these socks? I’ve been wanting to try this polling software I found, so I set up a little poll. It closes on Thursday at midnight Pacific time (I think—I’m still learning to configure this thing), so you have to vote before then. If you have some other idea for what these socks should be called, please let me know in the comments.

Ricki was watching me take pictures again this morning. Boring. Ho hum.

Felted clogsRobin, dear friend that she is, saw that I was after the Fiber Trends Felted Clog pattern. She wound up getting two copies of the pattern accidently, so sent one to me. It arrived yesterday. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You’re such a dear. Dig out your pattern and yarn, girlfriend, I’m ready to start!

I’ll leave you today with a picture of my kitty and her scratching post. She loves the new carpeting on it, and actually sleeps near it fairly often. Are you ready? One, two, three: awe…

How about Lacy Ladders? Great pattern by the way. The sock looks very cool on the foot.

Umm, is it totally unhelpful to say that I kind of like the name “figgy pudding?” ‘Cause I do…

PICK ME! PICK ME! I WANT THE SOCKS!

I voted “other” how about “Wassail” to go with the figgy pudding?

I think I have to second the figgy pudding name, so I think I’ll vote “other” if figgy pudding is right out, I think grandiflora is my second choice.

Are you needing a test knitter? (hint hint) I’m in love with them!

I voted “other” also. Sorry Dave. I keep looking at the photo, but nothing is coming to mind other than “Zig Zag”. I wiki’d it and found the ZigZag River, Zig Zag Railway. Hate the word zig zag? How about Traverse? Traverse Trail? I don’t know. I suck at naming patterns. I guess it’s a good thing I’m not a designer. ;-)

I’ve got so used to your calling it your figgy pudding sock that it’s hard for me to think of it otherwise. But I hadn’t realised that that was the name of the actual colour….

I love both the yarn colour and pattern and especially how the pattern makes the yarn not pool. I’m not very constant with my gauge - would it stay not pooling with gauge variations? I guess not..

I’m no help with any other suggestions for a name. I like the thought of its reflecting the thorn-in the-sideness and my only other contribution would be to try and incorporate your Grandma’s rug in the name; I love how the colours echo her rug. Although that’s the colour and not the pattern. Sorry, not much use…

I love how the fiddgy pudding socks came out. I love the colors
and the pattern. It’s too bad that it was a pain to work with. I had
considered buying that colorway and talked myself out of it when I
heard how much trouble you were having.

I chose Grandiflora because of the thorn in your side comment and those type of roses are def a thorn in peoples sides LOL :-) I sent an e-mail off to Ray this am, and let him know that you had tried to e-mail him and was wondering if he received it or not. Hope you here back from him soon!

Don’t ask me why, but when I opened your blog, saw the socks, my first thought was “Purple Rain” which is more indicative of the color rather than the pattern but I can’t get it out of my mind. Then I saw your poll, hmmm, stick with Figgy Pudding I guess, I’m calling them Purple Rain!!!
