The importance of being

The Importance of Being EarnestWith a colorway called Earnest, how can I not think of the delightful story The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde while I’m knitting up this yarn? I haven’t ever read this story—I must read it some day—but I’ve seen the movie a number of times. I love the version with Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Francis O’Connor, Reese Witherspoon, and Judi Dench. It’s delightful and silly. Really. Though my socks aren’t silly (I hope), I’m finding this yarn—Laura from Posh Yarns—an absolute delight. It’s so soft that I’m frequently stopping the knitting to pet it. Honest. It’s pettably soft. My feet are so looking forward to slipping into these socks when they’re done.

Earnest Earnest

Yes, you’re seeing cables there. Cables all the way around, with a more complicated bit to go down the front of the foot. Tenaya

Tenaya’s all knit up, ends woven in. All I need are pictures. I’m hoping to talk one of the Monday nighters to, er, lend me a hand with picture taking this evening. There will still be plenty of light when we get there. And, well, it’s a bit awkward to take pictures of your own hands, and downright impossible to take a picture of both of them at once without help.

No sew felted bagAnd then there’s this thing. I think my gauge was considerably different than the designer’s gauge. She told me her bag felted down to 12×12x6, and that it was 18% wider and 30% taller before felting—none of this information was in the pattern, I had to ask; I forgot to ask what gauge she got before felting. Turns out that would have been useful information to have. Mine’s 32 inches across. If I loose 18% when I felt this, then it’ll still be 26 inches across. Gak. Sigh. At this point I don’t know if I should felt it and see how small I can get it, rip out the last six rows and knit some more before binding off again to make a taller bag, or rip the whole thing back and go back to the drawing board. Box of patterns

I got a box from the printer on Thursday last week. It was full when it arrived. This morning I used up all of my sheet protectors, pulling patterns from the box and separating them out, stuffing them into their own sheet protectors, getting them ready to sell to shops. The pink sheets are dividers, one sheet between each set of eleven patterns, 30 sets total. Yup. Lots of patterns. Must go buy more sheet protectors. Soon.

Love the Importance of Being Earnest. I’ve read it, watched it live, and watched the movie. Each has its own little place.

I’ve not read the book either, but enjoyed the movie. It is fun and silly.

I can’t wait to see the socks tonight. Can I pet them also? I’d be more than happy to help photograph your mitts. I’m not the best photographer though, so if there is a professional in the group, we should let them do it.

I’d rip the bag back. I know you don’t want to hear that, but if you can’t get it felted down to a small enough size, then what will you do with it? Would you still use it if it were considerable bigger than you hoped?

Mmmm, love that Posh yarn. I’ve been coveting the Laura for awhile now. So soft and cushy - extremely pettable! Thanks for passing it around last night :)
