Yarn pron July 29, 2008
Last week one of my favorite LYSs, Newton’s Yarn Company, had a sale. A big parking lot sale that’s usually referred to as Christmas in July. I was there first thing Saturday morning. To get the best selection. Though I have in the past, this year I didn’t even look at the stuff in the boxes out in the parking lot, in spite of the incredible deals out there. Nope. I concentrated my efforts on the stuff inside the store. Got a mere 50% off, then an extra 10% off that, because I bought more than five items. Score. ![]()
First off I had to get some of their sock yarn. I got two hanks, enough for two pairs of socks. I had a third hank in my bag, but put it back after I realized that the colorway is almost exactly like the green Shibui that I got recently. What I did get is a hank of light blues with dashes of purple and green, and a hank that’s probably primarily blues, but with lots of greens, purples, reds. It could be a mess, too busy, when knit up, but I’m betting it’ll be wonderful.
I got more felting wool, because I love the little Amanda’s Squatty Sidekick (mine is here) that I knit up and felted this year. They had a glorious dusty blue that’s to die for, and it felted beautifully. I got two hanks of that. ![]()
Joy is a delicious cobweb weight merino wool. They only had a couple colors in this yarn, both were beautiful. One was a delicious navy, but I still have plenty of navy lace weight left over from the Canterbury Bells scarf. So I got the dark plum. This stuff is amazing. Lovely.
I got all three hanks they had of their cashmere/wool in this dark khaki color, a total of 960 yards. Ought to be enough to knit up something nice, even if it’s just a simple shell. Anything will be special in this fabulous yarn, though. The color of this one is interesting, deep, muted, mysterious. I love it.
The last thing I got was a small cone of merino-silk lace weight yarn in a rich brown. It’ll make a gorgeous shawl. The cone weighs .78 pounds, which equates to 1794 yards. I might be able to make a couple nice shawls out of this cone.
I think I did fairly well. I got some good yarns in some fabulous colors, yarns that will knit up well into good projects. I got a variety of things for a variety of projects. Since I thrive on variety, this is a good thing. And I only spent $76.00 including tax. Yeah. I did well. I love a good sale.
This morning I finally listened to Knit Picks podcast where she interviews the Yarn Harlot, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. It’s a marvelous interview. If you haven’t listened to it yet, go do it. Stephanie is funny, gracious, and all-around terrific.
Earthquake
Edited to add this bit, let you know that yes, we felt it. We definitely felt the earthquake. Very bouncy quake. The cat’s still a bit freaked. We’re fine. Just fine.

Since I got to see your new yarn haul in person, you already know that I was trying to sneak that laceweight in my bag. ;-) Next year I must make sure we meet up there. I still can’t believe I didn’t purchase anything.
