Viva! Las Vegas August 12, 2008
Yup. I’m in Vegas right now. With Dave, of course. We’re here to use up some timeshare points before they expire, so it’s not so much a vacation as a change of venue. Three laptop computers on the dining room table, a high-speed Internet connection, plenty of air conditioning, and we’re in like flint. ![]()
Once again we’re at the Cancun resort, though this time I was unable to get anything bigger than a one bedroom unit. It’s a little cramped with all our stuff unpacked. The kitchen is tiny, but serviceable.
You’re pretty much seeing the whole thing right there.
The refrigerator is to the left of the sink, crammed in between the counter and the wall. If I’m at the sink and Dave wants to get into the refrigerator, he has to wait—no room to open the door.
There’s no bar—egads!—so we’ve put the booze on the bookshelf next to the TV. We were pleasantly surprised by the ¾ bath for the living room, in addition to the nice full bath tucked in next to the bedroom.
There are the all-important knitting corner and knitting chair, where most of the stuff I brought is sitting, waiting patiently for me to work on it. I’ve actually made a little progress on the brown lace dress. A little. But a little progress is more than I’ve done recently. We have the Ravelympics to thank for me getting anything done on it at all. I have fewer than 18 rows to do on my second Algernon sock before I start the toe—so close to being done.
I keep going back and forth between really, really, really wanting to get Algernon finished before starting a new sock, and wanting to jump in, regardless. I don’t know what stitch pattern I’ll use yet, but that’s part of the fun of design. I brought a few of my favorite stitch pattern books to paw through for ideas, and some fun STR lightweight in Jasper to play with. I brought one of those hanks of Posh Yarn just in case I get the bug to start another shawl.
No pictures of knitting for you today, but I do have a single entry in the yarn pron category: one hank of Socks That Rock Silkie, also from Blue Moon in Mudslide. It’s STR with a twist. They added a touch of silk to the yarn. Ooh. This stuff is glorious. It’s hard to argue with a blend of merino and silk. I came close to bringing the Silkie along this week to work on, instead of the regular STR, but I didn’t. I’ve had the other longer, got it at Stitches West in February, and it’s been chomping at the bit ever since.

Wow, that is some knitting book stash to take on vacation! Say, isn’t the expression “In like Flynn?” (Maybe it’s my hearing deficit.) Your version is quite unusual and clever. Hope you enjoy your time in Las Vegas, a decidedly trippy place.

Enjoy your “not a vacation” change of venue!
BTW, the expression is “in like Flint” as that was the name of a movie starring James Coburn in 1967. There is a similar expression in Australia but substitute Flynn for Flint.

Knitting in Vegas — nothing like it! Although I’m wondering where the sequins and rhinestones are in all of that gorgeous yarn
P.S. It sounds like “in like Flynn” and “in like Flint” are synonymous now, with the first coming, well, first.

Too bad you only have the one bedroom. It probably does make tight quarters especially since you’re used to such a large amount of space at home.
Who knew your “in like flint” statement was going to cause such great comments? That’s what I love about the blogging. It opens up some amazing discussions.
