A blast from the past

I can’t believe how crazy things have been around here. A bunch of printed patterns were delivered while we were away. They’re all sorted now, stuffed into their sleeves, and put into binders to keep them safe. The update email went out to the shops that carry my patterns. We have a new customer management program online (a CRM), so I had to enter the shops there. I also entered them all as retailers on my web site so that they can place orders online more easily. Gads. Tons to do.

Dave cut this comic out of the paper for me this morning. Perfect! Ravelympics pin 2008

Just before we left I received my Bobicus Ravelympics pin. Isn’t it awesome? It’ll be going on my knitting bag sooner or later. Right now it’s still sitting on my desk.

While we were gone the Petunia Garden stitch markers that accidentally got put into my Etsy shopping cart—cough—arrived. I love them! Aren’t they fabulous? I got them from Thank Ewe. I almost got the Sea Flower stitch markers instead, but didn’t in the end… The multi-colored garden of markers called to me more loudly. The markers are delightful. The braided rings that slip over the knitting needles are seamless, so won’t catch. Yea! I don’t know if you can see it in these pictures, but each little flower has a tiny bead inside in a matching color. The designer makes jewelry, too, which she sells in her other Etsy shop, Beaded Iris. I’m amazed that none of her earrings dropped into my shopping cart. Maybe next time. I do need some new earrings, after all.

A week and a half ago I got one of those wonderful blasts from that past that happen only occasionally. After loosing touch with each other about 19 years ago, my dear, dear friend from college, Steve, found me. Squee! OMG. I know. We were buds in school. Hung out together. Ate together. Went to the movies together. Were bored together. Were bored together that long hot summer. Who else knew, knew to just how make me laugh—hard—when my abs were sore after a particularly hard workout at the gym? My pal, Steve, that’s who. Here he is at a ballgame with his lovely, lovely wife Teresa. I just know that she’s wonderful. She has to be! She married my friend. They both look great, don’t they? Thank you so very, very much, dear friend, for finding me. I’m still reeling. We had a lot of fun back then, didn’t we?

Steve and Teresa

I told my mom that he’d found me. She remembered a little something Steve did that I’d totally forgotten about. I knew Steve because he was roommates with a schmuck guy that I dated for far too long. Steve remained roomies with said ex for quite a while after the breakup. Said ex had quite a mouth on him. I don’t know what he said, but I can tell you that it was a disparaging remark. About me. It angered Steve. Steve wasn’t one to put up with that sort of nonsense. He worked out a lot back then. Had muscles on his muscles. Steve somehow grabbed the ex, held him over the edge of the balcony, upside down, by his ankles, extracted promises of good behavior before reeling the ex back in. Oh. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall!

I’m glad I found her too. It’s funny how life sends you off in different directions. It’s not that you don’t think about someone. It’s that one day you look up and you’re like “Where did they go?” I promise to keep in touch from now on.
