I need longer days

I finished up a In the Woods shawl chart last night, and was too lazy to print out the next one. Good thing I had a sock to work on!

I’m actually a little farther than this now. I took these pictures two days ago, hoping to use them in my Wednesday post. Hem. I’m getting quite close to finishing up this third sock. The only problem is that I realized somewhere along the way that I was a bit over zealous with the second sock. It’s too short. By about an inch. Yes, knitting stretches. But that’s a little much. My toes feel squished in it. You guessed it. When I’m done with sock three, I’ll be ripping back the toe of sock two and making it longer. Sigh. Will I ever be done with these socks?

Make sure you read Jocelyn’s post about the Sugar Push mitts she test knit for me. She did a wonderful job, and the mitts came out great, so be sure you go see them.

I think I forgot to mention that on Monday evening Anne of Handicraft Cafe suggested that the stitch I used for Sugar Push and Flying Lindy would make a great cowl pattern. I’ve been thinking about it, and have to agree. Plans are filling my brain, and will undoubtedly start spilling out before long. I’m seeing the cowl in both a fingering weight yarn and a lace weight for a lighter, dressier look.

Have you seen the Fall Knitty yet? It came out yesterday. Kristie reported that it was awfully slow at first, and when pages finally loaded they were missing images. I think I’m glad I missed that part. Sounds like the folks at Knitty are outgrowing their server.

As usual, there are some things in the new Knitty that I like, some I don’t like, and some that I find rather odd. That seems to be the nature of that magazine, and part of what makes it fun.

Twist and Shout by Robynn Weldon is the featured pattern this season. Overall, the sweater is too… trendy for me. Though the wide collar is fun, it’d go out of style way too quickly for my taste. That, along with the lack of buttons—and no real way to add them because of the asymmetrical shaping—make this a not-to-knit for me. But… I love it! I love the way the simple cables and ribbing give shape to the sweater.

I love Retrofit by Jesse Loesberg. I’d gladly knit something like this for Dave, but I don’t think he’d want it. I’ll ask anyway. If he wanted it at all, he’d probably want it knit all in one color, which would rather defeat the design.

I found Veronica O’Neil’s Slither a little odd. Maybe I’m just not in the right age group. Or something. The pattern’s a cross between full-length gloves, complete with tons of buttons, and fingerless mitts. Sarah Pasternak’s Hug scarf is whimsical, fun, and so not my style… even if I lived somewhere where I could make use of warm scarves. There are a number of baby items, which I’m so not interested in that I didn’t even follow the links. You might like them, though.

I love Bev Elicerio’s Hourglass socks, Kelly Porpiglia’s Interlocking Leaves socks, and Susan Dittrich’s Sidewinder skirt—it looks warm and cozy. And then there’s Anne’s (the same Anne from our Monday knit night group) pattern for the Morgan cap. If I can find some good wool-free yarn, I may just have to knit that for Dave.

I can’t believe it’s almost noon already. Except for a break for breakfast I’ve been here at my desk since 7 am, and feel like I’ve hardly even begun. I definitely need more hours in my day. More sleep would be nice, too.

I love Twist and Shout just because of the ribbing and cables. :) Yet, I also like more timeless sweaters such as those in A Fine Fleece, I really need to make one of those!

Thank you so very much for your comment on my Hourglass sock in Knitty. I am in general a ‘no comment’ type of person, so this is a rather extraordinary event for me! I read your blog daily - as I too am an all lace thing lover. I am so glad you liked the pattern, and again, thanks for noticing it! Good Knitting.

An inch too short? Again? Is this a new thing with you? LOL ;-)

I have Twist and Shout at the top of my list. I know it’s not timeless and won’t last forever, but I’ll just try to find yarn on sale. ;-) I think the Hug scarf is cute in a strange and creepy kind of way. I thought all the socks were pretty good, but my favorite is Baroque. Although I like Abby, I probably wouldn’t wear it, and I like the pattern stitch of Kinetic, but I’d make it narrower for a scarf. I’d say it was a fairly decent issue. Knitty always seems to have something for everyone which is nice.

I just found this site and have emailed my daughter-in-law about it. She is heavy into knitting and will be fascinated about the knowledge that is available here.

You will see her a lot here now that I have sent her your url.

I love the color of those socks — I bet they’ll keep your feet toasty warm! I love the knitty review; I’ve promised myself I can look when I finish doing all my reading to prep for next week’s classes. Soon…soon….

    Thanks for the shout-out! :)
