Finally September 18, 2008
Two days in a row. A recent record. Gads. Sorry I’ve been so absent lately. I’ve been needing many more hours in a day than I’ve had lately. Frustrating when I can’t get everything done in a day that I want to.
On Monday I wanted something easy to knit while at knit night. So, instead of finishing my nearly-done socks, instead of working on the brown lace dress (this one wasn’t actually in the running for a simple knitting project, but hey, it’s on the needles, so I considered it—for about a second), or the felting project, I started something new. A market bag. Otherwise known as a string bag. It promises to be a quick knit. I already finished knitting up the ball of Louet Euroflax Worsted that I had. And asked dear Kristie to order up a second one for me, since she found it on sale over at Webs, and I was running out the door to spend the day with Mom. Thank you, Kristie! It’s hard to argue with a 50% off sale, especially when you find that you need more of the exact yarn that’s on sale.
The very bottom of the bag is a stockinette square. The lower sides are a simple lace stitch, but I got bored, and changed stitches. I don’t know what the rest of it’ll look like. We’ll just have to see what happens when the second hank of yarn arrives.
I’ve been mostly working on the In the Woods stole. The fir cones are done, and I have a couple repeats of faun’s eyes knit. Two down, 14 to go. It’s only an eight-row repeat, though, so it’s going fairly quickly. Relatively speaking.
The faun’s eyes are nice enough as they’re knit up, but they really aren’t all that—not until you stretch them out so you can really see the lacy-ness of the stitch pattern. That’s when the love happens.
Let’s see, the photos below. In the first one you can see the top of the fern leaves, all of the fir cones, and the start of the faun’s eyes. The second photo is a closeup of those fir cones. They’re marvelous! Then you get to see the back of the fir cones. I love the texture of the back of some stitch patterns before they’re blocked. The combination of bumps and holes is delightful, don’t you think? It’s a texture I’d love to run through in my bare feet.
Once again it feels like a rather pathetic attempt at a blog post. But at least I got something together for you to look at and read. Two whole days in a row. I hope you have a great day.

It’s not a pathetic blog post at all. The pathetic thing is that WEBS didn’t come through with that order!
The shawl is looking amazing!

Not at all pathetic! In fact, there’s lots of good stuff here (except the news in the comment above about the Webs order). I love the way the stole is coming out :)
