Dress progress October 23, 2008
Making progress on the dress for Stephanie. I spent a bunch of time with a full chart of the armhole decreases yesterday before it dawned on me that, once again, I was making the whole thing much harder on myself than was strictly necessary. That bit figured out and written up, the knitting progressed quite well. From here it’s a straight shot to the back of the neck, a couple more simple decreases, and then the back of the dress will be done.
It might even happen later today. Fingers crossed.
I’m telling you, though, before I figured out how difficult I was making things, I was really, really, really glad I put that lifeline in at the base of the armhole decreases. Quite glad. Elated even. No idea how many times I ripped out that bit. Having the lifeline there saved my butt. And my sanity.
On another note entirely, this clip, The Last Knit, is a couple of years old now, but I never tire of watching it. If you knit, you’ll probably agree. The stats on this piece are amazing. The following are as of October 22, 2008. Viewed 1.7 million times. And counting. Wowee.

More math for me today. Need to get going on the sizing for Syncopation so that I can get the thing off to my test knitter.

You’re almost halfway complete! The second half should go much quicker, although I presume you’ll have to do some sort of calculations for shaping in the upper portion of the dress. What type of neckline will the dress have?
I LOVE that video!

I have to admire you for attempting that! I don’t think I’d know where to begin in trying to marry lace with dress shaping. Looking good.

It’s looking great, and you’re making amazing progress! And yes, aren’t lifelines wonderful? :)

Wow, has it been that long since that showed up on YouTube? I think I first saw it soon after it premiered.
The dress looks good. Were you trying to do the pattern around the decreases? That’s almost never successful with lace from what I’ve seen. This way gives a nicely curved edge.

That video clip is one of my favourites too!

What Amanda said. I think it looks fabulous. I really like the shaping and pattern break at the waist.

I’m gonna love that dress. I think “The Last Knit” is so cool, I, too, never tire of watching it.
