Finally home November 23, 2008
Yup. We were out of town last week. In Las Vegas. At our timeshare. The Internet hookup this time was… unreliable. Frustrating. Practically useless. Dave had planned on getting work done while we were gone, as he’d been able to in the past, but it didn’t work out this time. More frustration. We did end up having a reasonably restful week, after all. Read. Watched a lot of movies. Knit. I have lots of knitting progress to show you, once I get the pictures taken, and out of my camera. There are other pictures in the camera that I’ll show you, too, but those will wait until another day.
Dave’s been working for the last several weeks toward moving all of our sites to a new server. The current server has a hard drive that’s dying, is old and slow, and otherwise just in need of being updated. It’s never as easy as it should be, and has been most frustrating. The first and (hopefully) most difficult site is now, finally, running on the new server. I’m telling you this now, because at some point, hopefully soon, my sites will all go away for a few hours or so. When they’re back online after that disappearance, they should be running from the new server. Keep your fingers crossed, hope for the best, pray even, if that’s your thing, that all goes well with this second huge part of the move.
Meanwhile…
This is our dear friend Rich, a few days before his mother died last month. The photographer wanted him to smile, but it just wasn’t in him to do so. When he sent us this photo I warned him that it was blog fodder. He just laughed. Can you believe that hair? Dave thinks it’s disgusting. Rich has way too much of it. In January he chopped it short, so that length is from less than a year of growth. Plus, no split ends. Now that’s disgusting. Isn’t he horrible? Smug. He started the beard too late for it to be long enough to make a decent Santa beard, so he’s since cut it off. He’ll grow another one later. After Christmas. In January the hair will be cut off again, and donated to an outfit that makes wigs for children who are sick. Our dear friend has had quite a year, from caring for his dying mother to finding his next door neighbor dead in her home. He has no blog, so please give him hugs and support by leaving a comment to this post.

Hi,
It looks like Rich must be a teacher or school employee. I sure do recognize that photography group’s marking!
It’s a great photo, and he’s a great sport for letting it be blog fodder. My own family has asked for ‘releases’ in the future for putting their photos on my blog. (One has, anyway, but I think she was kidding.)
Rich has my sympathy and prayers. I lost my dad at the end of August, and it sure is tough as I know you too know, dear Laura.
My driver’s license photo was taken this summer when my dad was dying. It was impossible to smile, and I look in it as if I’m ready to burst into tears.
As I once read, “Grief is the price we pay for love.”
Please give him my best.

To Rich: Hugh warm hugs to you and a blessed release from the burdens of care. Now you have the treasure of all the memories of your dear Mother to hold in your heart and the satisfaction of knowing you gave her the best gift ever, your own caring heart and hands. You continue to give by the donation of your beautiful hair to some deserving child. Your hair and beard are truly beautiful. You are in my thoughts, Rich.

Hello Rich, greetings from across the pond :) Sounds like 2008 was a year you’d rather forget! I’ve had one’s like that although thankfully this year has been good for me and mine. Hopefully you will have many happy things to remember at the end of 2009, and in the meantime I wish you many bright blessings for the rest of this year and for the beginning of next.
All the best xx Jacqui
