Here to care for Mom January 3, 2009
I’ve been absent from my blog lately.
Have you noticed?
I’m currently about 400 miles from home, in the house where I grew up. Mom had cataract surgery on Monday, and I came up to take care of her. The surgery went extremely well. The surgeon is pleased. All that has gone as fine as can be. But two days after her surgery I came down with a doozy of a cold. So the caregiver is the one being given care. I was actually able to sleep last night, which came as a nice change. The sinus medicine is leaving me with the expected—but horrid—dry mouth, but is also drying up the snot enough so that I can breathe, sit in a chair for more than five minutes, breathe, sleep, breathe. You get the idea.
No pictures today. Sorry about that. It’s hard to process them on this laptop, plus it takes a bunch of time, something I never seem to have, sick or well, at Mom’s house. I took pictures of the finished needlepoint and counted cross stitch pillow tops that I made for Mom over the years. I’ll share those with you later—probably after I get home next week. I was disappointed and irritated to find that Mom had tossed the world’s ugliest vest that I knit for her when I was in grade school, the one I was going to fetch so that I could show it around, the one that she didn’t even offer to me, the person who made it for her. Frustrating, to say the least. Sigh.
That’s all for today. It might be it until I’m home again. We’ll see.
Oh, one more thing. My email delivery here is… selective. For some reason I’m only receiving a small percentage of the mail I should be getting, and most of that is spam. If you leave a comment don’t count on hearing back from me until I get home. I’ll answer everything then.

Hope you feel better. It’s nice of you to take care of you mom like that. I wish I could have done that for my dad too, but unfortunately that involves a plane and over 9 hours of flight.
