Yarn as light as air

I succumbed to peer yarn pressure yesterday, and cast on for the scarf I swatched over the weekend with the Douceur et Soie from Knit One Crochet Too. Oh. My. It’s like knitting with air. Only softer.

Douceur et Soie 1

Douceur et Soie 2The cables are soft and dreamy. The lace perfection. Because of the combination of knit and purl stitches it isn’t even curling. Because of the cable/lace combo, all edges are nicely scalloped— even before blocking. It’s simply divine.

I’m behind the times, as usual, and only just remembered this morning Seasons of Lacethat the winter Seasons of Lace KAL has started already. I headed over and posted about my new little scarf. Ooh! Check out my Monday post, and who the first person was to leave a comment. Yes, that Luxury One Skein WondersHélène Rush, the owner of Knit One Crochet Too. What fun. In her comment, Hélène mentioned the design she did for Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders. She designed a little scarf called Falling Leaves (on Ravelry) using just one ball of this same yarn I’m using. The finished dimensions of her scarf are a little different than what I’m looking for, but I’m assured that I’ll have plenty of yarn to get the job done. Thank you, Hélène.

Have you seen them yet? Knitty released their mid-winter bonus designs this morning. There are three of them: Montera, a coat with a simple cable design that, uh, accentuates and draws the eye to the butt; Vortex, a hat knit in an interesting manner, but with this odd top point thing; and Heart, a, er, knit heart, complete with valves. Is it just me, or it Knitty loosing it?

As for Vortex, somebody who would wear those glasses would wear that hat, and I had a lot of friends in my twenties who dressed just like that, fine for very young girls who want ot look interesting. The coat is a real dog, uh eyesore, It accentuates the butt and doesn’t fit the model well. Butts can be quite attractive and well worth accentuating but not in this way. I’ll take your word for it about the heart as I’m squeamish about hand knit human organs. What possessed Knitty?

That scarf is so pretty and delicate! I too love both lace and cables, but I don’t believe I’ve ever knit them in combination. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

That yarn looks beautiful to work with! I like the feeling of motion in the cable lace, too.

And for the Knitty designs, I know a few people that would love the hat and one that would go for the heart. I think I can see where the sweater was trying to go, but it’s not very flattering as shown. It might work if it were knit (a lot) shorter, or if the cables stopped at the belt line. A fabric with more drape would also help. Can’t see myself knitting or wearing any of these designs, but maybe they were just going for a different audience??

That is looking gorgeous! And I’ve been dithering about getting that book - -maybe it’s time (good for small amounts of handspun, I’m hoping…).

Yep, that yarn looks as light and soft as air. It’s gonna be a beauty!
