Can’t believe it’s after noon already!

In the Summer Shade blocking 1I have planned a great post for you, a recap of this year’s Stitches West fun and yarn and frivolity, but not for today. Today you get finished pictures of the shawl I’ve been working on, In the Summer Shade, a.k.a. The Bee Shawl. Yes, it’s done. Remember how I couldn’t decide what to do about the border? In my wanderings at Stitches I saw a beautiful shawl on display in one of the booths, and discovered that the simple border it had was just the thing. I practically raced back to my room, charted it out, and knit it up. I actually finished up all the knitting on Saturday afternoon, then blocked it yesterday morning. It was dry in time to take it to knit knight last night.

And here are the stats:

  • Pattern: In the Summer Shade, of my own devising.
  • Yarn: Elann Peruvian Baby Lace Merino, in Cypress.
  • Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm).
  • Finished size: 73 wide by 38 high
  • Elapsed time: November 19, 2008 to March 2, 2009, but the actually knitting started in mid-ish January.
  • Skills: Lace knitting, chart reading, SSP, double YO.
  • Notes: There are purl 2 togethers and lots of yarn overs on the wrong side of this garment, but they’re in a very specific, very predictable pattern, so aren’t all that bad to knit.

David is working away at the test knit. Last I knew he was about 50 rows in. I’ll post here when the pattern is finished and ready to sell. If you want to get an email announcement, be sure to sign up for my announcement list.

Very pretty! I really like the openness of the pattern.

Lovely!! The simple border and the area around the neck/center back really set off the rest of the pattern :-)

I am so impressed. As you were making it, I was not quite sure of it. Couldn’t quite visualize it. The finished blocked product on the model is stunning. Beautifully unique elements. Love it.

STUNNING! I blocked out a lot larger than I thought it would, but honestly I love that size for that pattern. it is just so beautiful! I think it will be a huge hit … but if not … people are stupid!

First of all it’s gorgeous. I love the boarder it really draws the eye to the rest of the shawl.

Second, I’m so excited that I was there at the tail end of the creating process at Stitches West. Your work is so lovely, very nice job.
