On socks and future flowers

The second Línea de la Playa sock is finally finished. It took a while to knit it up, not because it was causing me any trouble—it was a good little sock—but because I used it as my Monday knit night knitting project. You know, when a sock is only knit on once a week progress is slow! The only problem with finishing it, is that I currently don’t have a clue what I’ll work on in a few days when Monday rolls around again. There are a lot more pictures of the finished pair in my pattern shop.

Linea de la Playa

  • Pattern: Linea de la Playa, of my own devising
  • Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock, in Huron
  • Needles: Size 1½ (2.5 mm)
  • Finished size: woman’s medium
  • Elapsed time: January 11, 2009 to March 5, 2009

Mom gave me an amaryllis bulb for Christmas. I planted it the day before Dave and I left for Mexico in January. It started growing almost as soon as the bulb touched soil. First two, then four, then six leaves, six leaves that are quite large, and organized neatly three to a side, and that was it—for quite a while. Until this week. There’s finally a flower bud just starting in the center.

Amaryllis 1 Amaryllis 2 Amaryllis 3

Mom has one, too. Hers was planted several weeks before mine, and is at this point long since done blooming. She reported that her flowers didn’t last very long. Wonder if mine will?

Ricki hunched overI had a sweet little furry helper this morning when I was getting photos of the finished socks. She’s all hunkered down, fur fluffed out a bit. In spite of the sunshine, it was a little chilly in the house this morning.

On another note, have you heard about the yarn bombers in Vancouver? I have a strange feeling this activity will spread.

I wonder if the Canadians have heard of Erika/Redshirt Knitting? She knit a sweater for a Seattle tree back in 2005, which got covered in the local alternative paper and linked across the internet. Unfortunately, the article linked seems to have become lost in her last blog upgrade and changes at the newspaper.

I love the sock and especially the heel - really neat! It *almost* makes me want to change from my own method….
