Swatching

Swatch for Posh 2009-03-27 1I’m continuing to work on the swatches for the Posh shawl. Here’s a long swatch, in my style, piling one stitch pattern on top of another, as I’m too lazy to bind off and start again just because I’m changing stitches.

The bottom of this picture shows a stitch that I dearly love. Not only is it pretty right out of the box, but there are so many things you can do with it! It’s lovely. But it’s not striking the right chord for this shawl project. The next one up, though, the stems with flowers, I think will work just fine. I added nupps to it, which makes the flowers look even more flower-like. The stitch needs a bit of tweaking here and there, but I’m up to it. Swatch for Posh 2009-03-27 2

The lower part of this next picture shows another stitch that I’m in love with. All that lacy goodness is done on the right side of the fabric. The wrong side is simply purled. Easy. Lovely with or without nupps, but it isn’t right for this project.

The diamonds in the top part of the swatch are right for this project. Not only does the stitch pattern have the same number of rows as the flowers I like—which makes it a lot easier to chart—but the diamonds mimic the lines the flower stems follow. And it looks good with nupps. Kismet.

Sorry, but this is going to be another short, quick post today. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been completely swamped lately. I’ll close by showing you a picture I got of Ricki napping in her favorite mid-morning napping place the other day. She was studiously ignoring me.

you have a good eye for design.

I certainly don’t think you are lazy in doing your swatches.Your way gives gauge, also, demonstrates how different stitches react in the fabric made.
