The poll and a bird May 11, 2009
Just a couple quick things for you before I go back to bed. Yeah. Been up most of the night. Spent too much time with the old dust in the closet yesterday—my sinuses are suffering—but I got a lot done.
We have a clear winner in the naming poll: Midnight Garden. It also happens to be my favorite. Yea! I love it when things work out well that way. Jean, I’ll get a copy of the pattern off to you as soon as it’s been finalized. Thank you all for your fabulous suggestions.
A little bird got himself stuck on our deck on Friday morning. He flew in between the railing and the glass, and couldn’t figure out how to get away. It was time for intervention. I ran off and grabbed my gardening gloves, while Dave blocked Ricki from getting in the way—she was not amused—and grabbed his camera. Does anyone know what kind of a bird this little guy is? He’s beautiful. Yes, I managed to catch and release him before he had any obvious injuries from bashing himself against the glass. He is in the last picture below. He was moving so fast he blurred, and is hard to see against the houses and stuff below. Boy, was he happy to get away. If you’re interested, there are more pictures of him in my gallery.
That’s it from me today. I’ll off to get more water, and try the whole bed/sleeping thing again.
ETA: According to my friend Rachel, this pretty little bird is a Western Tanager. Thanks, Rachel!

That beautiful bird is a male Western Tanager. I used to see them occasionally when I was growing up in LA, but don’t think I’ve ever seen one in OC. Probably just didn’t look hard enough. Once I grew up, I started thinking of them as the Tequila Sunrise bird. ;-)

The shawl is as pretty as I thought it would be. I hope you are feeling better and your sinuses leave you alone ASAP :-)
