From birds to beavers

When I was up visiting Mom, we drove over to Martinez for lunch one day, and to try to see where the controversial beavers are living in Alhambra Creek. You can read about some of what’s been happening since the beavers came to town here and here on their blog. There’s a small spot for a video on the blog’s sidebar. Today’s video features baby beavers being cared for in captivity. They’re adorable. There’s another beaver video on YouTube. Mom and I didn’t actually get to see the beavers, but we did see their dam, a river otter muskrat, and a duck. Dave and I hope to go up to visit some time when we can go see the beavers when they’re out and about, near dawn or dusk. There are more Alhambra Creek pictures in my gallery.

I’ve been knitting madly at a couple of quick projects that for the moment anyway will remain secret. Yes, it means I’m still avoiding the gold shawl project. Bored, bored, bored. Horrid. I’m bored with my own design. But Kathryn isn’t. She’s nearly done with her test knit already—how embarrassing—and even plans on knitting another one as a table runner.

Awww. They’re very cute little beavers. Too bad you didn’t get to see them in person!

Hope the gold shawl comes back into favor…it’s so easy to get tired of something after the intense design phase is over.

Hi Laura! I’m so glad you stopped by to see the habitat. Worth A Dam would be happy to show you around sometime if you’d like someone to meet you and do an escort! There are other videos of our own beavers on the “image gallery” page, and let us know where you saw the otter and what you observed, we’d love to keep up to date.

Hi there laura, thanks for visiting linking to our site. If the middle picture you posted is your “otter” its a muskrat. Its much smaller, 3 lbs with a rat like tail. That’s a great picture of them taking grasses back to the nest. We rarely see otter, and almost never during the day, but we have seen them from time to time so its great to keep an eye out. On the day of the beaver festival someone actually photographed a Mink at the dam! You never know what might turn up.
