Midnight Garden

As far as lace shawls go, Midnight Garden is about as far as you can get from Domus Aurea. Well, about as far as I’ll probably go, anyway. Midnight Garden is a triangle instead of a rectangle; it’s knit with fingering weight yarn instead of a fine lace weight; when the knitting’s done there are a few stitches to graft together, but no binding off; I designed and knit it in 2½ weeks instead of 7. While all those differences are happening there’s one main similarity: they’re both fairly easy and straightforward knits.

Midnight Garden

Here are the stats:

  • Pattern: Midnight Garden, of my own devising.
  • Yarn: Brooks Farm, Acero.
  • Needles: Size 6 (4.0 mm).
  • Finished size: 80.5 x 40.5 inches (204.5 x 103 cm)
  • Elapsed time: April 19, 2009 to May 6, 2009.
  • Skills: Lace knitting, chart reading.
  • Notes: The hardest part of knitting this shawl is casting on the right number of stitches. After that, it’s smooth sailing. The knitting is fairly simple, the top part is easily memorized, and the wrong side rows are simple, simple, simple.

There are quite a few more pictures over in my pattern shop. You can buy the pattern there, too.
