More twists

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

There have been a lot more twists and turns in my knitting lately than holes. This is the model mitt that matches the twisted tulip socks. It, too, will have a place in Posh Yarn’s autumn kit.

Gloriosa and Doric

Thursday, June 3, 2010

I actually have two new patterns out, and have been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to post about them here yet. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Here are the two patterns.
Gloriosa
This is the cardigan that I’ve been working on since late […]

The winner is: Kumasi

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Kumasi
Huge thank yous to everyone who participated in this naming project, especially to those who suggested the names that we voted on. The clear winner, coming in with nine votes—four more than the closest competitor—is Kumasi, suggested by Carolyn (sadly blogless). Carolyn, I sent you email just a few minutes before posting this. If you […]

Divided

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Watching the amaryllis change every day is awe inspiring. The bulb has been busy since yesterday. In the afternoon the flower buds started to move apart from each other. This morning they looked like this:

The flower buds themselves don’t look much different than yesterday. But the first leaves down below grew a bit.

The small strawberry […]

Amaryllis update, swatch

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

The amaryllis didn’t look that much different first thing this morning than it did yesterday morning.

It’s out a little farther, and the color is a bit more intense. It’s extremely clear at this point that there will be two blossoms at the top of the stalk.
The swatch knit in the round worked out […]

Amaryllis, roses, bay, swatch

Monday, April 5, 2010

This morning it looked like this:

The edge of one petal is starting to unfurl. And just look at that color!
My Cecil Bruner roses have been putting on quite the show this year, too. I picked a few, put them in the tiny vase that Dad bought for me when I was a child, a special […]

Logo
I don’t know if you’ve noticed my attraction to blue lately: Capistrano, Hesperia, Denim Lace Tunic, Isola, and Basket Whip are five of the last six designs and they’re all blue. Maybe it has something to do with my mood. In my own defense, these projects weren’t all knit at the same time, quite a […]

Septagon or heptagon?

Monday, March 22, 2010

When I first started swatching this shape last week from a stitch I found in an old German knitting book, I wondered what it would be called. Septagon came to mind, though it didn’t sound quite right. As it turns out, use of the term “septagon” is not recommended by Wolfram Mathworld:
A heptagon is a […]

Diamanten

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Just released: Diamanten. You can also see it on Ravelry and on Patternfish.
I found these diamond stitch patterns when looking through a book of old German charted designs that date back to the early 1900s. I updated the designs to use both left- and right-leaning decreases, used a modern method of denoting the stitches in […]

Rain, knitting, buttons

Thursday, January 28, 2010

You’ve probably all heard about the deluge of rain California has been hit with recently. Rain wasn’t the only thing we got. At higher elevations there was also snow.

While we obviously got a lot of rain, for the most part our neighborhood came through just fine. There were some very small areas were a […]
